DIY Coffee Body Scrub

In need of a little pampering?

Making your own skincare products at home is a fun, easy, and inexpensive way to keep toxins out of your skincare routine.

This amazing DIY coffee scrub smells incredible, is rich in antioxidants, reduces the appearance of blemishes and cellulite, and is easy to make with simple ingredients you probably already have on hand. I’ve been using this scrub twice every week since a friend mentioned it to me. It only takes a few minutes to make and leaves my skin feeling super smooth; it’s especially great to use before shaving. I also love that this scrub gives my coffee grounds an effective second purpose, and the grounds themselves are a super gentle exfoliant.

Benefits of Coffee Body Scrub:

Coffee is a great source of antioxidants and nutrients that may benefit the skin.

  • Exfoliate - coffee grounds make a great exfoliant since they do not dissolve in water and work to gently remove dead skin cells. Studies show that caffeic acid (an antioxidant) not only helps to boost collagen and prevent premature cellular ageing but also has antimicrobial properties which protect the skin from germs.

  • Treat acne - the chlorogenic acids and antioxidants from the coffee grounds, and the antimicrobial properties found in honey make this coffee scrub an effective tool for unclogging pores and reducing the inflammation of body acne. *Please note that this scrub CAN be used as an effective facial scrub too, but only if you use a very fine grind for your coffee grounds. The grind for regular drip coffee is too large for sensitive facial skin and could damage the pores. If you’re interested in using this as a facial scrub I recommend using an ultra-fine or espresso grind for your coffee grounds.

  • Reduce cellulite - this body scrub will reduce the appearance of cellulite if used consistently by supporting healthy skin cellular turnover. Why spend money on expensive treatments when you could do this effectively at home? *If you really want to reduce the appearance of blemishes or dark spots on the skin I recommend adding a little lemon juice to the mixture to naturally lighten these areas.

  • Increase blood flow - by lightly massaging your skin with this scrub, you're also supporting healthy blood circulation. This blood flow brings along a fresh supply of oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells, contributing to overall glowing and healthy looking skin. This stimulation helps support the process of lymphatic drainage which allows waste and toxins to move through your system quickly and efficiently. I like to massage the coffee body scrub in a circular motion starting with extremities and moving towards the lymph nodes to really increase movement for vibrant skin.

  • Moisturizing - the honey and olive oil bring moisture to the skin and replace body lotions you may have used previously. This scrub will leave your skin soft and nourished, and makes shaving super smooth and easy. Did I mention it also smells wonderful??

Okay, now onto the recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coffee grounds - can be fresh coffee grounds or already brewed

  • 2 tablespoons honey (I love using manuka honey for extra skin benefits!)

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  • Place the coffee grounds into a small bowl.

  • Add the olive oil and the honey and mix well.

  • Store in an airtight container.

  • Keep within reach of your shower and use as desired. Twice to three times a week is the general rule of thumb for using exfoliants so you don’t irritate the skin with overuse.

It’s not the prettiest but it really works! I keep my coffee scrub in an old candle jar.

It’s really that simple. Takes me maybe five minutes to grab the ingredients, mix, and pour the mixture into a container. Plus I always have these ingredients in my kitchen so I can just make more as needed. This mixture is good for three months and you can change the consistency of your body scrub by adding more or less olive oil and honey depending on what you prefer. If you like a runnier consistency I recommend keeping it in a squeezable travel bottle to make use super simple and mess free!

This scrub is a really fun and easy DIY that would make a great gift. Make a little spa basket for someone who needs pampering and add a relaxing candle for a really nice gesture, or enjoy it for yourself!
